DOE – Design of Experiment – Advanced Level

Design of Experiments (DoE), or experimental design, is a scientific and statistical method used to plan, conduct, and analyze experiments in order to obtain significant data about a system or a process.

The main purpose of DoE is to optimize processes by identifying key factors that influence an outcome and determining the complex interactions between these factors. Unlike traditional methods that change only one factor at a time, DoE allows for the simultaneous testing of multiple variables, providing a clear picture of process performance with a minimum number of tests.

Essential Information

  • Duration: 2 days
  • Recommended participants: 5-10
  • Level: Advanced / Process Optimization

Target Audience:

  • Quality Specialists and Process Professionals.
  • Process Engineers.
  • Lean and Six Sigma Specialists.
  • Professionals from various fields (production, commercial, financial services, healthcare, IT, logistics, etc.).
  • Entrepreneurs and Consultants.
  • Employees interested in professional development in experimental data analysis.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Discover what the DOE methodology is and how it is applied in practice.
  • Understand basic concepts: Factors, levels, replication, response, etc.
  • Select key variables and establish an efficient experimental plan.
  • Understand the difference between Full Factorial, Fractional Factorial, and Screening designs.
  • Use Minitab software for planning and analyzing experiments.
  • Interpret results to make decisions based on statistical data.

Course Structure

  • Introduction to DoE: History, definitions, and advantages over traditional methods.
  • Fundamental Principles: Randomization, replication, and blocking.
  • Experimental Designs: Full Factorial, Fractional Factorial, Screening designs.
  • Analyzing Results: Identifying main effects and interactions.
  • Optimization: Finding the ideal settings for maximum performance.
  • Practical Applications and Case Studies.
  • Summary and Conclusions.

Organizational Benefits

  • Process Optimization: Improving the performance of organizational processes through scientifically validated solutions.
  • Time and Resource Savings: Reducing the number of trials needed to find the optimal solution and decreasing cycle times.
  • Quality Increase: Identifying and eliminating variability that negatively affects products or services.
  • Innovation and Development: Exploring and gaining a deeper understanding of the relationships between critical variables.
  • Risk Reduction: Evaluating critical factors before implementation, preventing costly errors.
  • Operational Efficiency: Eliminating unnecessary activities and establishing ideal factor combinations.

We recommend participants have access to a laptop with MINITAB software installed (trial version available). It can be downloaded from the MINITAB website: https://www.minitab.com/en-us/products/minitab/free-trial/

The course will conclude with a multiple-choice examination, and participation statements or graduation certificates will be issued, as applicable.
