Design of Experiments (DoE), or experimental design, is a scientific and statistical method used to plan, conduct, and analyze experiments in order to obtain significant and informative data about a system or a process.
The main purpose of DoE is to optimize processes, identify key factors that influence an outcome, and determine the interactions between these factors. This method allows organizations to move from “trial and error” testing to a structured approach that provides precise results with a minimum consumption of resources.
Essential Information
- Duration: 1 day
- Recommended participants: 5-10
- Level: Introductory / Process Optimization
Target Audience:
- Quality Specialists and Process Professionals.
- Process Engineers.
- Lean and Six Sigma Specialists.
- Professionals from diverse fields (production, commercial, financial services, healthcare, IT, logistics, etc.).
- Entrepreneurs and Consultants.
- Employees interested in professional development in data analysis.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Discover what the DOE methodology is and how it is applied in practice.
- Understand basic concepts: Factors, levels, replication, response, noise, etc.
- Select key variables necessary for a successful experiment.
- Understand the role of statistics in the testing process.
Course Structure
- Introduction to DoE: Basic concepts and definitions.
- Planning an Experiment: Steps for correct preparation and testing.
- Types of Design: Introduction to basic experimental schemes.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation: Using graphs to visualize interactions.
- Practical Applications: Group exercises to reinforce concepts.
- Summary and conclusions.
Organizational Benefits
- Process Optimization: Direct improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of internal processes.
- Time and Resource Savings: Reducing the number of tests required and development costs.
- Quality Increase: Identifying and eliminating factors that generate unwanted variability in products or services.
- Innovation and Development: Stimulating a deep understanding of the relationships between critical variables.
- Risk Reduction: Identifying critical factors before implementing large-scale solutions.
- Continuous Improvement Culture: Encouraging employees to constantly seek optimization ways based on scientific data.
We recommend participants have access to a laptop with MINITAB software installed (trial version available). It can be downloaded from the MINITAB website: https://www.minitab.com/en-us/products/minitab/free-trial/
The course will conclude with a multiple-choice examination, and participation statements or graduation certificates will be issued, as applicable.
