FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) is a systematic and proactive method of analyzing a system, which evaluates where and how a failure may occur and what its effects will be. The course provides the necessary tools to identify and manage risks effectively, being a detailed document that prevents the failure to meet critical customer requirements. This session focuses on PFMEA (Process FMEA), as it is the most widespread in the industrial environment, especially in the Automotive sector, according to the new AIAG & VDA standards.
Essential Information:
- Duration: 2 days (with the possibility of an additional Follow-up day for practical projects).
- Recommended participants: 5-10.
- Level: Advanced / Risk Management / Automotive IATF 16949.
Target Audience:
- Technical staff from production, quality, engineering, maintenance, or management departments.
- Middle management from Quality and Production areas.
- Personnel involved in internal system, process, or product audits.
- Personnel responsible for risk analyses in the Automotive industry (according to IATF 16949).
- Entrepreneurs, Consultants, and employees interested in professional development.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand and apply the FMEA methodology according to the new AIAG & VDA manual.
- Identify failure modes, their effects, and root causes.
- Evaluate risks using Severity, Occurrence, and Detection criteria for calculating Action Priority (AP).
- Manage FMEA documentation as a “living” tool used for continuous process optimization.
- Facilitate team workshops for risk analysis.
Course Structure
- Introduction: Purpose and importance of FMEA in the product life cycle.
- The 7 steps of the PFMEA methodology:
- Planning and Preparation.
- Structure Analysis.
- Functional Analysis.
- Failure Analysis.
- Risk Analysis (S, O, D Evaluation).
- Optimization (Risk reduction actions).
- Documentation of results.
- Integration with other tools: The relationship between FMEA, Control Plan, and Work Instructions.
- Case studies and practical exercises: Applying the 7 steps to a real process within the organization.
Organizational Benefits
- Problem Prevention: Anticipating and avoiding defects before they affect the quality or performance delivered to the customer.
- Efficient Prioritization: Optimal use of resources by focusing on the highest risks.
- Cost Reduction: Decreasing expenses generated by scrap, complaints, and customer returns.
- Compliance: Ensuring adherence to IATF 16949 standards and automotive customer requirements.
- Proactive Culture: Moving from “detecting defects” to “preventing their occurrence”.
The course will conclude with a multiple-choice examination, and participation statements or graduation certificates will be issued, as applicable.
