PDCA

PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) is a four-step model used for problem-solving. It is an essential part of the Lean Manufacturing philosophy and a fundamental condition for continuous process improvement (Kaizen).

The methodology is particularly useful for implementing Total Quality Management or Six Sigma initiatives and, in general, for improving business processes through systematic cycles of testing and validating solutions.

Essential Information:

  • Duration: 1 day
  • Recommended participants: 5-10
  • Level: Introductory / Continuous Improvement

Target Audience:

  • Technical staff from production, quality, engineering, maintenance, or management departments.
  • Professionals from various fields (production, commercial, financial services, healthcare, IT, etc.).
  • Personnel from Logistics or Customer Support.
  • Entrepreneurs and Consultants.
  • Employees interested in professional development and learning a rigorous work methodology.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what PDCA is, its structure, and the optimal moments for its use.
  • Gain a clear perspective on the culture of problem-solving and its difference from process improvement.
  • Apply the PDCA methodology as a team and select the most appropriate analysis methods.
  • Understand the role of the moderator/leader as a key factor for the process’s success.
  • Acquire knowledge regarding support tools: Ishikawa, 5 Why, Histogram, Pareto, etc.

Course Structure

  • Introduction: Problems and general solving techniques.
  • Introduction to PDCA: Concept and history.
  • PDCA Methodology – Step by Step:
    • PLAN: Identifying the problem and planning actions.
    • DO: Implementing solutions on a small scale.
    • CHECK: Verifying and measuring results.
    • ACT: Standardizing success or adjusting the plan.
  • Tools used: 5W2H, Brainstorming, Pareto, Control Charts, Action Plan, Ishikawa, 5 Why, Poka Yoke, etc.
  • Practical Application: Group exercise on a concrete case.
  • Summary and final discussions.

Organizational Benefits

  • Skill Development: Increasing employees’ capacity to solve problems autonomously.
  • Systematic Approach: Transitioning from intuition to a structured, data-driven method.
  • Efficiency: Rapidly identifying and managing critical problems, reducing operational impact.
  • Quality: Constant improvement of products and services provided.
  • Cost Reduction: Minimizing non-quality costs through validated and sustainable solutions.

The course will conclude with a multiple-choice examination, and participation statements or graduation certificates will be issued, as applicable.
