MSA – Measurement System Analysis

MSA (Measurement System Analysis) is defined as an experimental and mathematical method of determining the variation introduced into a process by the measurement action itself. Measurement system variation can contribute directly to the overall process variability; therefore, MSA is used to certify the measurement system by evaluating its accuracy, precision, and stability.

Essential Information:

  • Duration: 2 days
  • Recommended participants: 5-10
  • Level: Advanced / Metrology and Statistics

Target Audience:

  • Technical staff from production, quality, engineering, maintenance, or management departments.
  • Personnel involved in internal system, process, or product audits.
  • Technical staff from metrology laboratories.
  • Entrepreneurs and Consultants.
  • Employees interested in professional development and ensuring data reliability.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and understand the sources of variation within the measurement process.
  • Master the basic concepts: accuracy, precision, bias, linearity, stability, repeatability, and reproducibility.
  • Perform Gage R&R studies to determine the correctness of inspection decisions (for both continuous and attribute data).
  • Make correct decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of lots from suppliers.
  • Use MINITAB software to perform MSA studies.

  • Data testing for Pass/Fail responses.

Organizational Benefits

  • Understanding fundamental concepts such as validation of measurement systems, calibration, stability, and reproducibility, which contributes to the improvement of measurement processes.
  • Ensuring measurement precision.
  • Resource utilization efficiency.
  • Compliance with industrial standards (ISO 9001; IATF 16949).
  • Reducing measurement system errors.
  • Improving data reliability.
  • Optimizing measurement processes.
  • Developing analytical skills.
  • By gaining a detailed understanding of measurement systems, participants can become more efficient in diagnosing and resolving measurement-related issues.
  • Increasing confidence in measurement results.

The course will conclude with a multiple-choice examination, and participation statements or graduation certificates will be issued, as applicable.
